62 OLED TV Statistics on Shipments, Market Share, Sizes and Energy

OLED TV statistics show a global market measured through several different lenses: finished-TV shipments, panel shipments, premium-market share, company revenue and household energy use. The figures below distinguish those measures, preserve each measurement period and identify estimates, forecasts and survey results.

Global OLED TV Shipments and Market Scale

The global television market reached an estimated 208.8 million units in 2024, but that is an all-TV measure rather than an OLED-only total. Within the OLED category, global shipments rose 8% year over year to 6.07 million units in 2024.

Source: LG Leads Global OLED TV Market for 12th Consecutive Year. LG attributes these market estimates to Omdia, and shipments are not the same as retail sell-through.

Measure Period Reported figure Scope
Global TV shipments 2024 208.8 million All TVs worldwide
Global OLED TV shipments 2024 6.07 million OLED TVs worldwide
Global OLED TV shipments 2023 5.6 million Prior-year figure reported by LG

The 2023 OLED figure requires care because the release wording differs from the 2024 estimate. It is best treated as a separately reported prior-year measure, not as a precisely harmonized retail comparison.

LG shipped 3.18 million OLED TVs globally in 2024, including more than 1.1 million in the fourth quarter. Its combined OLED and LCD TV shipments totaled 22.6 million units, representing 16.1% of global TV market revenue; neither of those latter figures is OLED-only.

OLED TV Market Share and Leading Manufacturers

LG remained the estimated global OLED TV shipment leader for the 12th consecutive year in 2024, with more than 52.4% of shipments. The duration covers 2013–2024 and is a company-reported, Omdia-based leadership claim rather than a separate shipment count.

Samsung reported estimated 2024 OLED TV sales of 1.44 million units and a 27.3% global OLED TV market share. Its OLED TV unit sales increased 42% from 2023, while its share rose 4.6 percentage points; that is a percentage-point change, not a 4.6% relative increase.

Company measure Period Figure Definition
LG OLED TV shipment share 2024 Over 52.4% Global OLED shipments
Samsung OLED TV market share 2024 27.3% Global OLED market
Samsung OLED unit-sales growth 2024 vs. 2023 42% Year-over-year change
LG OLED TV shipment share 2023 53% Rounded global shipment share

For wider market context, Samsung reported a 28.3% share of the entire global TV market in 2024 and first place for 19 consecutive years through 2024. Those are all-TV measures, not OLED-specific leadership statistics.

Price and screen size show where OLED is concentrated within higher-value television segments. In 2023, OLED TVs accounted for 45% of the global premium-TV market under the $1,500-and-above definition, up 8.5 percentage points from 2022.

LG’s 2025 release said OLED’s share was expected to exceed 50% in 2024. That is a forecast or forward-looking expectation stated in the release, not an observed 2024 result.

Large screens form another important segment:

  • OLED TVs measuring 75 inches and above represented more than 25% of OLED TV market revenue in 2023 globally.
  • Models 75 inches and larger represented 16% of the entire OLED TV market in 2024; the release does not specify whether this particular share is based on units or revenue.
  • LG held a 57.5% share of OLED screens measuring 75 inches and above in 2024.
  • TVs measuring 75 inches and above exceeded 20% of premium-TV revenue in North America and Europe in 2023, across technologies.
  • The ultra-large OLED segment approached an annual average growth rate of nearly 70% over the five years ending in 2023; exact endpoints and calculation details were not supplied.

The large-screen figures mix revenue share, market share and an unspecified basis, so they should not be compared as if they were one uniform series.

OLED TV Panel Sizes and Supplier Shipments

Omdia’s Q2 2023 panel data describes the supply chain rather than completed television purchases. The largest panel sizes by shipment share were 55 inches and 65 inches.

OLED panel size Q2 2023 share of panel shipments
55 inches 36.5%
65 inches 31.7%
77 inches 13.9%
48 inches 10.2%
42 inches 5.3%
83 inches 2.4%

The same supplier mix assigned 80.7% of OLED panel shipments to LG Display and 19.3% to Samsung in Q2 2023. Panel-maker share is different from TV-brand share, because panels and branded finished products are separate stages of the market.

LG Display’s reported panel shipments changed across the available quarterly series: 2.30 million in Q4 2021, 1.25 million in Q1 2022, 1.65 million in Q2 2022, 1.62 million in Q3 2022, 1.80 million in Q4 2022, 0.75 million in Q1 2023 and 1.10 million in Q2 2023. These observations are panel shipments, not LG-branded TV shipments.

OLED TV Company Revenue and Business Performance

Company financial figures provide scale, but they do not isolate OLED TV hardware unless the source explicitly does so. LG Home Entertainment reported KRW 15.23 trillion in 2024 revenue and KRW 315.9 billion in operating profit; the division includes more than OLED TVs.

LG’s webOS-based advertising and content business exceeded KRW 1 trillion in annual revenue in 2024, a related smart-TV platform measure rather than OLED hardware revenue. LG Electronics as a whole reported KRW 87.73 trillion in consolidated revenue and KRW 3.42 trillion in consolidated operating profit in 2024.

In Japan, LG’s 2024 OLED lineup covered screen sizes from 42 to 97 inches. LG ranked first in Japan for 70-inch-and-above OLED TV shipment share during January–December 2024, although the exact percentage was not disclosed.

OLED TV Growth History and Comparable Market Measures

Historical comparisons show both OLED-specific growth and the broader television market around it. LG reported a 58.5% global OLED TV shipment share in 2022 and about 3.0 million OLED TV shipments that year.

Source: LG Maintains OLED Dominance in Global TV Market for 11th Consecutive Year. The historical figures use LG’s Omdia-based reporting and should not be treated as independently verified legacy data.

Global TV shipments exceeded 201 million units in 2023. LG’s combined OLED and LCD TV shipments exceeded 22.53 million units, representing 16.3% of global TV market revenue; these are comparable-market measures, not OLED-only totals.

Historical measure Period Figure Scope
LG OLED shipment share 2022 58.5% Global OLED TV shipments
LG OLED shipments 2022 About 3.0 million LG global OLED TVs
Global TV shipments 2023 Over 201 million All TVs worldwide
LG combined TV shipments 2023 Over 22.53 million OLED and LCD together
LG combined TV revenue share 2023 16.3% Global TV market revenue

The 2022, 2023 and 2024 figures come from different company releases and definitions. A shipment share, revenue share and panel shipment total answer different questions and should remain separate in analysis.

Television Energy Use and Viewing Statistics

Energy and viewing data add buyer context, but the available DOE/Fraunhofer evidence covers televisions generally, largely using LCD model and U.S. household datasets. It does not measure OLED-specific performance.

In 2020, U.S. televisions used an estimated 54 TWh of energy, while average usage was 188 kWh per TV per year. Average TV on-time was 5.8 hours per day, or 8.2 hours for the primary TV.

Source: Display Energy Use in Homes: Ownership, Power, Usage, and Trends. The energy totals are estimates, and usage values are survey-based where noted.

U.S. television measure Period Figure Scope or definition
Television usage energy 2020 54 TWh U.S. homes, all televisions
Average energy per TV 2020 188 kWh/year Average television
Average TV on-time 2020 5.8 hours/day Survey measure
Average primary-TV on-time 2020 8.2 hours/day Primary TV only
Average TV on-time 2017 3.9 hours/day Historical survey comparison

Average on-time in 2020 was 50% higher than in 2017, and respondents attributed a self-reported increase of 1.5 hours per day to COVID-19. These are survey comparisons and attribution statements, not experimentally isolated causal effects.

The DOE/Fraunhofer model analysis found that retail mode used about 1.3 times as much power as default mode on average. It also found that average LCD TV power density fell 80% from 2005 to 2015, average LCD model screen size grew 20% from 2010 to 2016, and passive standby power was below 1 watt for most TV models sold after 2008; these model trends were not sales weighted and are not OLED-specific.
